The Best-Paying U.S. Jobs Requiring No Bachelor Degree [Infographic]
If you don’t have the time, patience and money necessary to complete a four-year bachelor degree, you can still find plenty of jobs with lucrative salaries and less demanding requirements. Many well-paid jobs across the U.S. only require an associate degree (usually taking two years), a postsecondary nondegree certificate or a high-school diploma.
According to Bureau of Labor Statistics data published by Business Insider, air-traffic controller is the occupation offering the highest wages without the need for a 4-year stint in college. In 2016, the job required an associate degree while the median annual wage came to $122,410. Nuclear-power-reactor operator sounds like a position that needs extensive university qualifications but in actual fact, all that’s required is a high-school diploma or equivalent. Responsible for operating nuclear reactors, keeping data logs and carrying out emergency procedures, a reactor operator would earn a median wage of $91,170 every year.
Transportation, storage and distribution manager is another position requiring a high-school diploma or equivalent. Even though this job usually requires a few years of prior experience, a seasoned worker would have an annual median wage of $89,100. Nuclear technician is another notable entry on the list, given that Homer held that job in Season 1 of The Simpsons before he was promoted to safety inspector. A nuclear technician had a median annual wage of $79,140 in 2016, though the position does require at least an associate degree.
