New Tuition Financing Model Lets Some Paid-Specialty Students Study for Free
BAKU — Azerbaijan has introduced a new tuition financing model under which 70% of certain students' tuition fees will be covered by the state budget, even for students admitted to paid (contract) specialties rather than state-funded ones. The model appears designed to soften the financial burden on students who score well enough to gain admission but not high enough to secure a fully state-funded place — a common source of frustration in Azerbaijan's centralized admissions system, where the gap between free and paid-specialty placement can come down to a handful of exam points. Deputy Minister of Science and Education comments published the same day also addressed the country's Turkey-Azerbaijan University specifically, indicating its admission plan will be increased going forward.
Officials have not yet detailed the full budget scale of the financing model or how many students are expected to benefit in its first year.
