Turkey-Azerbaijan University Names Its First Rector

BAKU — Turkey-Azerbaijan University has appointed its first rector, marking a key organizational milestone for the joint institution as it moves toward full operation. The appointment closes out the university's founding leadership structure and signals that the school is entering a more active phase of academic planning ahead of student enrollment.

The university was established under a bilateral cooperation framework between Azerbaijan and Turkey, part of a broader pattern of joint educational institutions the two countries have built in recent years — alongside existing exchange programs, dual-degree agreements, and faculty mobility schemes between Azerbaijani and Turkish universities. Azerbaijan's Ministry of Science and Education has repeatedly pointed to such joint ventures as a way to expand access to internationally recognized degrees without requiring students to study abroad.

With a rector now in place, the university is expected to move forward with finalizing its academic structure, including faculty recruitment, program accreditation, and the specifics of its first intake of students. Officials have not yet announced a target date for the university's first academic year, though similar joint institutions in the region have typically taken twelve to eighteen months between leadership appointment and first enrollment.
