Fulbright 2027-2028 Competition Opens, October Deadline Set for US Applicants
WASHINGTON — The Fulbright U.S. Student Program has opened its 2027-2028 competition, with a national deadline of October 6, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The program funds individually designed study and research projects, as well as English teaching assistantships, in more than 160 countries.
Fulbright remains the US government's flagship international academic exchange program, having supported more than 400,000 students, scholars, teachers, and professionals since 1946. Applicants are assessed on academic record, project feasibility, language proficiency where relevant, and the strength of their proposed host-country affiliation.
The program has faced funding uncertainty over the past year amid broader cuts to federal exchange programs, though recent appropriations have restored significant support.
