Azerbaijan Names Five-Student Team for 19th International Astronomy Olympiad
BAKU — Azerbaijan has selected its five-student team for the 19th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA 2026), following a selection exam held July 22–23 at Baku State University and the Tusi-Bohm Planetarium. The exam ranked winners of the VI Azerbaijan Astronomy Olympiad to determine the national team.
The selected team members are:
- Ertoghrul Maharramli — Baku, 10th grade, Turkish Diyanet Foundation Baku Turkish Lyceum
- Mehdi Gasimli — Baku, 11th grade, Turkish Diyanet Foundation Baku Turkish Lyceum
- Khalid Omarli — Baku, 10th grade, Lyceum for Physics, Mathematics and Informatics
- Alihuseyn Sadigli — Baku, 10th grade, Lyceum for Physics, Mathematics and Informatics
- Orkhan Taghiyev — Baku, 10th grade, Lyceum for Physics, Mathematics and Informatics
IOAA 2026 will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam, from September 25 to October 5. As in previous years, Azerbaijan's team will compete with the support of the Education Institute of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The national selection round and IOAA preparatory classes were jointly organized by Baku State University, the Education Institute of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the MUTDA Republican Children and Youth Development Center, the N. Tusi Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory, and the Amateur Astronomy Society public union, with the Tusi-Bohm Planetarium serving as general sponsor.
