Nigerian Students Win Multiple Medals at Singapore Math Olympiad

LAGOS — Nigerian students delivered a strong performance at the 2026 Singapore International Mathematics Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC), held in Singapore from July 17 to 21, with two students finishing among the world's top 10 in their respective categories and the wider Nigerian contingent securing multiple medals overall.

The result adds to a growing record of Nigerian students competing successfully on international academic stages, reflecting increased investment in STEM training and olympiad preparation programs across Nigerian schools in recent years. Education advocates say results like this help counter a narrative dominated by the sector's real and serious challenges — including school security incidents and large numbers of out-of-school children — by highlighting what well-supported students are capable of achieving on the global stage.
